Empowerment Through Employment

Launch Into Work Program

It has been a huge season for The Karma Collective. Our team has almost doubled in size as we welcomed three new employees. We completed a Launch into Work Program, to provide employment to those in our community that face barriers in finding work.

We warmly welcome Alistair, Zilan, and Jessica to our team of more than 10 people, including students working weekends and project specialists who help with our sustainability research and graphic design.

Al is getting busy in the garden, nurturing the food forest, preparing gardens and facilities for the opening of the new Wellbeing Sanctuary in Spring 2024. He even brought in garlic bulbs from his own garden to plant in our Karma garden.

Zilan is loving producing candles and especially loves packaging them ready for delivery. She also brings delicious homemade food to share!

Jessica is candle making as well, and using her product knowledge to support our growth through email marketing and customer service. She also has an insatiable reading habit.

A big thank you to the Launch into Work team from the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. Huge thanks to all our customers, who have made it possible to open these paid employment opportunities to people in our local community.

Viyan Takes Flight

Viyan is one of our student employees who works on the weekend whilst still at school. She has long held the dream of becoming a pilot, and we have been able to assist in helping that dream become a reality. Through the generous time and resources of Phill Hargreaves, Viyan took to the skies for a flight with Phill to see how she would feel in the air, even having a little time on the controls.

Through mentor support, she has now formulated a plan to achieve her ultralight aircraft license with Lone Eagle Flying School, Clifton.

We're cheering you on, Viyan. You've got this!
