Cultivating Kindness with Adam Gelic

Adam is the founder of empowering stationery brand Mi Goals, he started the business in 2010 with the goal to create a diary that would help himself and others find their purpose and realise their dreams.

Mi Goals products are now found in over 600 online and offline stores across the globe and over the years the products have been used by over half a million people, to define their purpose and achieve their goals. We caught up with Adam to ask him how kindness has helped him along his journey to empower people around the world to achieve their goals.

How would you describe yourself in one sentence?

I would describe myself as an ordinary individual, with a few dreams who is on a journey to realise them.

What does kindness mean to you and how do you apply it to your life and the work that you do?

Kindness to me is to simply treat others, as I would like to be treated. It’s really quite simple I like to be treated kindly so as result I treat others kind because it makes all of us feel good.

How has being kind helped you along your journey?

It’s helped me in both my professional and personal relationships, but also it’s helped me create a business based around creating impact and making the world better as a result of what I do. Coming from a place of kindness and impact has opened up a lot of opportunities.

What inspires you?

People chasing their dreams, those who just have a go at life regardless of their circumstances or situation. I love the stories of the ordinary individuals turning their dreams into reality.

Do you have any daily rituals?

In terms of daily rituals each morning I start the day by filling out my progress journal. Basically I answer the 5 below questions and then write my to do list of the key essential tasks I need to accomplish for the day:

5 questions:

  1. Focus on
  2. Grateful for
  3. How do I want to feel today?
  4. Goals for today
  5. 3 simple habits

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

“Sometimes you have to take two steps back to take ten forward.” For me this is a constant reminder that life isn’t easy and there will be many challenges along the way, but that is ok I know I can get through them and grow as a result.

Do you know what your purpose or ‘why’ is?

I always say I have 3 key purposes, they are:

  1. To be the best dad/husband I can be to my girls
  2. To represent possibility: If someone like myself who loves his comfort zone can follow their dreams anyone can.
  3. To create a business that inspires and helps others realise their full potential. Creating a business that has a positive impact on people’s lives is one of the most rewarding things you can do.

What is your #1 book recommendation and why?

Of late I would have to say Shoe Dog, the story of Nikes founder Phil Knight. I loved it so much because it showed the reality of what Phil went through in building Nike. Also it showed Phil’s struggles and character flaws, which I think gives hope to any budding entrepreneur that you don’t have to be perfect to succeed. Phil is the ultimate ordinary individual who has done something extraordinary with his life.

Who is your #1 kindness role model and why?

The Rock aka Dwayne Johnson: A hardworking, passionate and humble family guy inspiring us to be our best selves. I love the fact he has achieved massive success but he still is such a kind and likeable individual.

What’s your favourite Karma Collective product and why?

I love the soy tin candles, well priced, smell amazing and look great also. Win, Win, Win 🙂
