OK so let’s talk the fun stuff first. I spent December and January volunteering in Borneo with an organisation I work with part time, Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Australia.
However, I extended my trip to spend some time with Sun Bear Outreach and help to hand raise 2 of the cubs – Khala and Lucy. This was such a special experience for me, especially because The Karma Collective are helping to fund their rehabilitation and release.
It was both challenging and rewarding and it helped me further understand first hand the amazing work that Sun Bear Outreach do to help give these bears a better life. It made me proud that thanks to you, we have been able to donate over $17,000 to Sun Bear Outreach over the last 12 months. If you’d like an insight into what a day in the forest with Khala looked like, watch this 50 second video.
I also have some sad news from Sun Bear Outreach. While I was in Borneo, I found out that Pampy is no longer eligible to go back to the wild. She has some severe dental issues and unfortunately her canines are too damaged for her to forage and defend herself effectively in the wild. It was so disappointing to learn this, but I am happy to know she will be taken care of in a forest enclosure Sun Bear Outreach have built and she will be in good company with two friends, Chico and Madu.
We are currently finalising the next project that we will be helping to fund. We will be supporting World Animal Protection this year, helping to support projects that will help native Australian animals – but I’ll give you more details on this when everything is locked in.
Lastly, thanks to everyone who supported us over the Christmas period and purchased products from our store for yourself, your friends and family – it means so much to me and it’s much appreciated as always.
Hope you enjoyed the update and wishing you all the best for the rest of 2020!
